Charlize Theron Named UN Messenger of Peace

Oscar winning actress and activist Charlize Theron has been named a U.N. Messenger of Peace. The 33-year-old Theron will have a special focus on ending violence against women by assisting Ban’s campaign, “UNite to End Violence against Women.” She agreed with Ban to pressure Hollywood into making more movies about social issues.
“I don’t necessarily want to forget that my job as an actor is to entertain,” Theron said.
“But let me tell you, there’s a tremendous feeling when you can do it with a sense of responsibility, a sense of truth, with a sense of greater truth, which is not necessarily always good to look at or nice to look at,” she continued.
Charlize is the 10th peace envoy, joining George Clooney, Michael Douglas, British naturalist Jane Goodall, as well as Brazilian author Paulo Coelho.
