Malin Akerman covers the October 2009 issue of Michigan Avenue Magazine. Born in Stockholm and raised in Toronto, Akerman, 31, is happily married to musician Roberto Zincone. She proves that she’s the prettiest comedic powerhouse in the land with this month’s Couples Retreat costarring Chicago’s own Vince Vaughn. Inside the mag, she talks about Couples Retreat, Vince Vaughn, keeping in shape and Chicago.

Couples Retreat looks great. Tell us what it’s about.
MALIN AKERMAN: It’s basically about four couples who are friends and all in different stages of their relationships. One of the couples ends up having marital issues and they’re not sure they’re going to make it through. They find this perfect sort of getaway that does these whole [therapy] packages, and they convince the rest of us that we should come with them.

What was it like to work with Vince Vaughn?
AKERMAN: God, it was a blast. He’s a crazy man. Vince is incredible at improv and it’s difficult to keep up with him. The jokes that go on, especially between him and Jon Favreau and [costar] Faizon Love…. All these guys have known each other for so long that once they start going off, they can go on with one joke for half a day.

You’re in great shape, and since most of the movie is set on an island, what was your workout routine to prepare for beach scenes?
AKERMAN: Oh, dude. I have been so lazy lately. After Watchmen, which was working out pretty much every single day and on a very strict diet, I just said screw the gym and I never want to see it again. That was a year and a half ago and I swear to you, I still have not stepped foot in a gym. I’m starting to become a skinny fat person.

What’s your favorite thing about Chicago?
AKERMAN: I love the Chicago accent. I have a friend from Chicago and she has a great accent that she’s kept and it’s just phenomenal. I love it.
